You have heard of Apple iOS 6 right? And what about the Maps app that came with it? Ok good!
Now the good news is that Nokia, the Finnish company, has announced its plan to bring “HERE” on the iOS platform as soon as Apple approves it.
What is “HERE”? It is the rebranded name of the Nokia Maps. It will be a free download and be based on HTML5, feature offline modes, voice-guided walking directions and built-in public transit guidance, some of which aren’t present in Apple’s native Maps app.
Nokia’s PR quotes that “HERE, the first location cloud to deliver the world’s best maps and location experiences across multiple screens and operating systems. With the new brand, HERE, Nokia aims to inspire a new generation of location services and devices that make the mobile experience more personally significant for people everywhere.”
We know that Nokia acquired earthmine a while back to build out its 3D street-level imaging. Earthmine’s reality capture and processing technologies will become integral parts of HERE’s 3D map making capabilities and might directly compete with Google Street View.
So once Apple approves HERE, all those who have iOS 5 can then upgrade to iOS 6 because that upgrade will have HERE to help you out with mapping difficulties.
